Katie wads up the piece of paper she was scribbling on and looks down at Madison Square from her desk in the high-rise office. Toying with words like a 14-year-old! her mom’s voice says inside her head.
Second wedding looming, you are bound to think about these things. Will this love last? Will they maintain a healthy relationship? Will sex stay enjoyable? Or will it all crumble? A scary thought, almost enough to send her hunting for a pagan ward against the evil eye.
Her degrees are far too advanced for superstition, and magical thinking won’t grant a good marriage anyway. Let’s move with caution, trial and error and eventually solve the marriage like a puzzle… Booooooring!
So this time she resolves to drop the “attune, adjust, grow into it” mantra and lean into her princess-y side. She soon will leave this fancy office and move across the ocean to be with her beloved, to join in marriage, and come what may. Katie doesn’t believe that it’s a wise move. Statistically speaking, they’ll be divorced in three to five years, and she may regret letting go of this job and the title that she had bled to earn. But the same wisdom, logic and measured actions strangled her first marriage. So maybe now it’s time to try random, the “why not?” approach?
